Green Yerba Mate, a light to medium bodied mate, delivers a light fresh herbaceous, taste with a slightly green grassy finish. Easily sipped plain, with your favorite sweetener or a touch of honey. Yerba Mate is categorized as an herbal infusion because the Yerba Mate leaves come from a shrub tree known as ilex paraguariensis, a species in the holly genus, not the tea plant camellia sinensis.
Unlike many other herbal "tea" infusions which are caffeine free, Yerba Mate is an invigorating and powerful stimulant frequently found in "energy drinks". High in antioxidants, Mate contains numerous minerals such as potassium, manganese and magnesium. Yerba Mate isn't acidic like coffee and is lower in tannins making it less bitter and a very enjoyable drink.
Contains caffeine/mateine. Packaged as a loose leaf tea. Brew 1 heaping teaspoon in 8 ounces boiling water (212 degrees F); 4 ounces brews approximately 35-38 cups of tea.
