EGYPT. The "Herb of Kings", is native to India and the Mediterranean. Very aromatic with a clove-like scent, basil enhances almost any tomato recipe and blends well with other herbs when seasoning foods. Use basil to season tomato sauces, salad dressings, cold pasta salads, grilled fish and roast chicken. Add to marinades, soups and stews. Sprinkle over tomatoes with fresh mozzarella. Add basil near the end of cooking time to retain the most color and flavor.
